No one finds more creative uses for technology than the Nanny State! The latest example:

Some overweight students in the Bay Shore, Long Island (NY) school district will wear activity monitors starting this spring.

The school district bought Polar Active wrist monitors (about $90 each) that monitor heart rate, physical activity and even sleeping patterns.

Bay Shore’s athletic department was already using the monitors in gym classes. But now they’ll track a group of students’ physical activity 24/7.

The school district’s goal? Reducing obesity.

Some parents and students are up in arms about the move. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) says it’s concerned about privacy issues.

But it appears the students who’ll participate in the study, and their families, are on board with it.

Sound like a good idea? Let us know about it below.
